The meetings and events industry is one of the most rapidly developing types of business, not only in terms of the gross economic impact but also the academic, technological and scientific communities and their subsequent output and contributions to wider society. The destination and venue selection in terms of pure logistics is one of the most important factors that shapes the decision making process of potential participants, regarding their participation in conferences.
The next 5 to 10 years will see mega impacts on the meetings and events industry as a whole but arguably even more in the much sought after association sector meetings. These changes will bring tsunami effects on the whole value chain. New generations, technology, AI, robotics, communication, travel issues, marketing developments, big data and more, all these will impact at every step of destination and venue selection, education and communication methods and strategies. Are destinations and venues agents ready for these changes? Is the supply chain speaking the language of associations? Are we all even on the same page or are we lost in translation. The outbound UK MICE sector is thought by some to be Europe’s largest-it is the number one inbound market for many European countries and features a strong association sector, very large and varied agency sector and has many corporations which hold meetings throughout Europe. Many destinations either have some form of representation in the UK but still find penetrating all sectors of this power house market a real challenge. With the opening up of improved air routes from the Baltic Region to the UK and the potential opportunities this could present , this session through the interaction with well-known industry players from the UK explores what planners are looking for and how they want and don’t want to be approached. The session will reveal the difference between UK venue finding and event management agencies and their priorities for clients, the session will also explore what UK PCOs ate looking for in relation to the association world and the Managing Editor of a well-known UK based international industry publishing group will reflect on marketing strategies which have had an impact and where editorial and advertorial can work.
