ACI EUROPE 2018 Best Airport Award Winners Announced

The 14th Annual ACI EUROPE Best Airport Awards were announced during the gala dinner of the joint ACI World/28th ACI EUROPE General Assembly, Congress & Exhibition, hosted by Brussels Airport on 19 June 2018.

This years’ judging panel for the ACI EUROPE Best Airport Awards was drawn from a well-respected group of independent experts, including the European Commission, EUROCONTROL, European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) and European Travel Commission. ACI EUROPE counts over 500 airports in 45 European countries among its membership and this year’s competition saw a high level of entries in the competition in each category.

The awards cover four traffic categories of airports and aim to recognise achievements in core activities such as customer service, facilities, retail, security, community relations and environmental awareness and operations.

In the Under 5 Million Passengers Category

The first award recognising airports in the Under 5 Million Passengers category went to Tallinn Airport for its ambitious large-scale expansion and reconstruction of the airside area with no major operational disruptions. The judges were highly impressed by the airport’s new state-of-the-art pre-flight security screening checkpoint, which allows for capacity to be doubled at peak times. They noted the improved airport access with the construction of a direct tramline from the city centre. The judges also valued the airport’s close cooperation with airlines and other stakeholders, such as the Estonian Tourism Board, to promote Estonia as a tourist destination.
