Lithuanian Airports has invitation airlines to take part in a public tender to commence flights from Vilnius to London City Airport next year. The Lithuanian Ministry of Economy and Ministry of Transport and Communications identified the new route was as vital for the country’s economic and social development.
According to Rokas Masiulis, the Lithuanian Minister of Transport and Communications, continuous efforts are in place to offer as many new routes for Lithuanian passengers as possible. In addition, regular flights and a convenient connection to London City will contribute to ensuring even better visibility for the country’s capital.
“The new route plays an important role in increasing Lithuania’s accessibility and the number of direct flights to our country’s airports. Without a doubt, the introduction of new routes is important in order to strengthen the tourism, transport, and service sectors in our country,” says Masiulis.
The scheduled departure time from London City Airport is between 06:00 and 10:30 or between 16:00 and 20:00 local time. The airlines participating in the tender have to ensure that each flight seats at least 98 passengers.
According to CEO of Lithuanian Airports, Marius Gelžinis, the first flights from Vilnius to London City will depart in spring of 2019, and the winning air carrier will operate the route for at least four years.
